Costa Rica,
Tips for a Safe Vacation

  • Your passport is unique: take care of it. Always always carry a photocopy of your Passport with you and keep the original in the hotel safe.
  • Upon arrival at the airport, we recommend that you never leave your luggage alone.
  • The colon (¢) is the currency of Costa Rica. US$ dollars and credit cards are widely accepted in the country.
  • If you wish to exchange currency, it is recommended to do so at banks or authorized exchange houses. Bank transactions require a valid passport (not a copy or photo).
  • An unlocked mobile phone will work in Costa Rica. But remember to call your phone provider before activating global roaming services to your plan, as it may incur additional costs. You can also buy a prepaid SIM card and use your unlocked mobile phone in Costa Rica. Find SIM cards at the Kolbi (national telecommunications company) stores at the airport, or at any store of telephone companies such as Claro and Liberty.
  • If you use ATMs, it is important that you do so in well-lit, public places.
  • Always keep your belongings in a place within reach, especially if you travel in a rented vehicle or public transport.
  • Avoid stopping when a stranger requests it.
  • Use seat belts throughout the trip.
  • Electrical outlets are 110V, with standard US two-prong flat plugs
  • In case of emergency, we recommend you call 911
